What Chavrusa is
Chavrusa is an AI learning partner for Torah study. It looks up texts from public libraries (mainly Sefaria and Hebrew Wikisource) and discusses them with you. It is a learning aid. It is not a rav, and nothing it says is a halachic ruling. For practical questions, ask your rav.
The AI can make mistakes. The source texts shown on screen come directly from the libraries, but explanations and attributions should be checked against the sources.
Accounts and payment
- You sign in with Google or with a code sent to your email.
- Each account gets about ten free back-and-forths. After that, ₪10 sent by Bit lets you keep learning for about ten more. Longer, deeper exchanges use up learning faster than short ones.
- Credit is added after the payment is confirmed by hand, usually within a few hours. Payments are for learning credit only and are not refundable once used. If a payment cannot be confirmed, contact us and we will sort it out.
- One account per person, please. Accounts used to get free credit repeatedly may be closed.
What we store
- Your sign-in email (and name, if you give one).
- What you tell us about your learning, your conversations with the chavrusa, and the level assessment built from them.
- Your credit balance and payment records (amount, date, the note code). We never see your Bit or bank details.
- If you choose to share your learner card, other learners can see your name, interests, learning style, levels and the contact email you choose. Your conversations are never shown to anyone else.
Who processes your data
Your messages are sent to Anthropic (the Claude AI model) to produce replies. Data is stored with Supabase and the site is hosted on Vercel. Emails are sent through Resend. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
Your choices
You can delete your data at any time from the "Find a chavrusa" tab (Delete my data). This erases your conversations, your level history and your profile. Credit and payment records are kept, as they are needed for accounting. You can also ask us to export or delete your data.
